The analysis of website traffic has become increasingly important. Urchin is well known as the leading web analysis software, deployed globally in all types of industries that rely upon its security and privacy-compliant features.

Urchin from Google is normally installed and run at the enterprise customer’s environment. The internal IT team would then have responsibility for data security, backup, maintenance and administration. While most enterprises have a broad understanding of IT-related requirements and logging, the necessary expertise and time required to handle and administer Urchin from Google may be missing from many organizations. Our customers required additional assistance for monitoring effectiveness of their online marketing with Urchin from Google. In 2007 – two years after Google’s acquisition of Urchin software, webalytics introduced the first Urchin Appliance at the Google Partner Summit, consisting of hardware with operating system, a web-based user interface and Urchin 5 software.

At that time, Google granted webalytics the exclusive right to sell the product under the name "Urchin Appliance."

Some years later, webalytics is providing the third generation of our powerful Urchin Appliance – consisting of reliable server hardware, with an installed Appliance Operating System, an Appliance Management Tool and the Urchin software, now Urchin 7.

Today, the Urchin Appliance is equipped with features to simplify the IT team’s administrative tasks. Urchin administrators will spend less time with administering and maintaining Urchin when making use of these Urchin Appliance features:

Appliance Management Tool (AMT)

With the AMT, the administration of the Urchin Appliance will be simplified, even the simultaneous administration of several Urchin Appliances.

Highly sophisticated log file retrieval

With the Urchin Appliance, the organization of log files and log sources becomes a simple administrative task, wherever log files are stor

Modification of existing data in log files

To be able to modify data in existing log files directly, the Urchin Appliance provides a functionality called "pre-processing". Using this it is possible to alter data – for example, to provide name resolution in an intranet or to anonymize IP addresses.

Backup

The integrated backup functionality will backup your entire program, data and log file directories in a single compressed file, automatically and on a daily basis. This file is either available locally on the Urchin Appliance, or can be transferred to a remote location.

Surveillance & Monitoring

This feature will inspect the availability and functionality of services and the device itself at all times.  In the unlikely event of an error, the administrator will be notified by e-mail. Extensive diagrams showing the device’s load as well as capacity usage will allow the administrator to act in a prompt and provident fashion.

Sending reports by e-mail

The integrated "Urchin Report Tool" which was developed by webalytics especially to complement Urchin from Google allows reports to be emailed.

Tracking of outbound links, downloads and more

Tracking downloads, mail-to’s and outbound links, as well as the extensive tracking of cross-domain campaigns by using trackEDM, the additional tracking script which was developed by webalytics especially for Urchin from Google and Google Analytics.
